ARBA Members Only Free Curry Xmas Party

ARBA members enjoyed perfect weather, fine food and music at the ARBA Members Only Free Curry Xmas Party with Mick Kidd & Dave Blight at the The Semaphore Workers Club on Sunday afternoon.

The afternoon started with Marla Slee's amazing home cooked curry and what a great way to start the day it was! We are very grateful to Marla who was ably assisted by Daryl and Amin, thank you so much!

David Blight with Mick Kidd then entertained those present with their brand of harpin', slidin', suitcase stompin' acoustic blues on the porch over looking the sea front with the crowd watching on in the sunshine.

The setting outside was so perfect that it was decided that ARBA Youth in Blues Program stars Amin Slee and Lachlan Sullivan should also perform outside under the porch. They duly provided a fine traditional blues set, these boys improve every time they play and are really sounding great!

Dennis Kipridis wins the 2023 Paul Hay Award

The Adelaide Roots & Blues Association congratulates Dennis Kipridis for winning the 2023 Paul Hay Award for service to roots and blues music in South Australia. The award was announced and presented by 2022 Paul Hay Award winner Tess Coleman, at ARBA's Christmas Concert with The Streamliners, Sunday 3rd December, at The Semaphore Workers Club.
Dennis has been tireless in his promotion of local roots and blues music and the musicians who play it, over many years. He was one of the founders of the Adelaide Roots & Blues Association and is also a past president and long-serving past committee member of the association.

He has instigated and promoted many roots and blues events, most notably the Deep South Festival and the Gumbo Room Blues Jam. Dennis always ensures that his events feature a diverse range of artists, with a particular emphasis on female and younger acts. Many acts have received valuable exposure from his events and The Gumbo room has become a valuable vehicle for networking that has resulted in a number of new local acts forming.
The legacy of The Deep South Festival continues today, in the form of The Port Noarlunga Blues Festival. The Adelaide Roots & Blues Association remains the peak body for roots and blues music in South Australia and The Gumbo Room continues to this day.

Along with his band The Streamliners, Dennis has set the benchmark for live performance of original roots and blues music in South Australia. Likewise with their recordings, which commenced with the band appearing on the ground breaking South Australian compilation "Deep South" in 1994. Since then the band has released 6 albums, including "Kicking Back the Blues" which finished in the top 5 of the Blues Foundation's International CD competition in 2020. Dennis continues to play with The Streamliners and several other acts and remains an integral part of the local scene here in South Australia.

Dennis Kipridis is certainly a very worthy winner of the 2023 Paul Hay Award. Congratulations Dennis!

ARBA's Christmas Concert with The Streamliners

A big crowd was on hand for ARBA's Christmas Concert with The Streamliners at the Semaphore Workers Club on Sunday evening.

ARBA is proud to have brought one of Adelaide's finest bands back to the red stage they have frequented so many times over the years, after a long absence. The Streamliners front man Nick Kipridis described it as a "homecoming" and the dance floor was full as the band performed two sets of original music in their unique style. A welcome return indeed!

Thanks to The Semaphore Workers Club and all of their bar staff and volunteers and to ARBA President Stephen von der Borch for acting as MC and organising the show. Special mention to Marie Gudic who produced the poster for this event, as she does for all of our events. Thanks also to the members of the ARBA committee and all association members without whom events like this would not be possible.
